How do I calculate hours worked for a timesheet?
Enter your clock-in and clock-out times in the calculator. It will automatically compute the duration in hours and minutes, decimal hours (for payroll), and total minutes. For overnight shifts, enable the date fields so the calculator knows you crossed midnight.
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the number of minutes by 60. For example, 45 minutes is 45/60 = 0.75 hours. Common conversions: 15 min = 0.25, 30 min = 0.50, 45 min = 0.75. This calculator shows decimal hours automatically alongside the standard hours:minutes format.
How does the calculator handle overnight shifts?
If the end time is earlier than the start time (e.g. 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM), the calculator assumes the shift crosses midnight and adds 24 hours to the end time. You can also use the optional date fields for shifts spanning multiple days.
What is the difference between elapsed time and clock time?
Elapsed time is the total duration between two points (e.g. 7 hours 30 minutes). Clock time refers to specific moments on the clock (e.g. 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM). This calculator converts between both, enter clock times and it shows you the elapsed duration.
